Fusion Designs acquires Borkholder from Kountry Wood Products
GOSHEN, Ind. – Amish case goods manufacturer Fusion Designs has purchased Amish case goods manufacturer Borkholder Furniture from kitchen and bath cabinet producer Kountry Wood Products for an undisclosed price.
Fusion Designs will assume management of all Borkholder’s operations on Jan. 1, 2020, and Borkholder will complete all in-house orders until the end of the year, officials said. Both companies are based in Elkhart County, Indiana.
Goshen, Ind.-based Fusion Designs was launched in 1993 by Noah and Margaret Bontrager and remains family-owned and -operated. It specializes in solid wood dining room, bedroom, occasional and entertainment furniture, which is built and finished in its 75,000-square-foot plant in Goshen.
Nappanee, Ind.-based Borkholder was started by Freemon Borkholder in 1982 and was acquired by Ola Yoder, the owner of kitchen and bath cabinet maker Kountry Wood Products in 2011. Some of the product is built in Kountry Wood Products’ manufacturing facilities in Nappanee, and some of the line continues to be made by a number of Amish workshops in the region.
The Borkholder line includes solid wood bedroom, dining room, occasional, entertainment and office furniture, categories that are compatible with the Fusion Designs line.
“The acquisition of Borkholder Furniture is a natural fit for us,” said Marcus Bontrager, president of Fusion Designs. “We have known Ola Yoder, CEO of Borkholder’s parent company, Kountry Wood Products, for many years and have long admired the company’s reputation for high-quality designs and exceptional customer service.”
Bontrager added that Borkholder was one of the first solid wood furniture companies from the Midwest to make inroads with independent dealers across the country, “appealing to the style preferences of consumers” on both the East Coast and West Coast.
“We intend to continue to build upon its loyal base of fans and expect this acquisition to help us further expand our presence as a valued resource for solid wood furniture for dealers across the country,” Bontrager added.
“I’m confident that Borkholder is in the right hands to position it for ongoing success moving forward,” Yoder said. “More importantly, Fusion has the resources, passion and dedication to excellence necessary to care for existing Borkholder customers, and we expect the transition to be seamless.”
