City Furniture opens Doral City/Ashley HomeStore showroom
MIAMI, Fla. — City Furniture will open its dual-branded City Furniture and Ashley HomeStore tonight here in the Shops at Beacon Lakes in the Doral community.
The opening of the two-level, 100,000-square-foot showroom at 1450 NW 117th Place is the latest step in a $100 million expansion program that also has included the opening of its sleek and smaller-scale Miami Modern showroom in Midtown Miami and the Top 100 company’s first two Orlando, Fla., market superstores.
The newest Doral store features elements City has developed recently to amp up the in-store experience, including a KC Café & Wine bar, serving wine and craft beer. It’s also home to the expanded offering of home accents and gifts in the store-within-a-store City Marketplace and what the promotional to mid-priced retailer bills as the Miami area’s largest mattress gallery.
“We’re continually innovating and listening to our customers to give them an exceptional shopping environment,” City Furniture President Andrew Koenig, said in a release. “For the dynamic, style-savvy Doral market, we’ve created the latest evolution of our next-generation showroom design. It’s a relaxed, fun environment where customers will find great values and an unmatched selection of modern, casual and traditional furniture styles and home accents.”
New technology in store also focuses on customer convenience, Koenig noted. A customized iPad sales system, developed with partners Apple and IBM, enables sales associates to check items in stock and at all City Furniture stores and distribution centers and to take payment and complete scheduling the delivery almost instantaneously, the company said.
The company also offers same-day delivery for in-store showroom customers, and offers full online shopping.
The Doral superstore is City’s eighth showroom built to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, addressing the retailer’s 2040 Green Promise (to become carbon neutral by 2040) announced earlier this year. Other steps the company has taken include the conversion of its roughly 100-truck delivery fleet to run on clean-burning, compressed natural gas and the pre-order of five Tesla semi all-electric trucks. It’s also in the process of rolling out an exclusive Seattle collection of eco-friendly bedroom, dining room and other furniture made entirely with reclaimed wood certified by the international Forest Stewardship Council.
City Furniture operates 20 showrooms from Miami through Vero Beach and in southwest and central Florida, as well as 14 Ashley HomeStores as the brand’s Southeast and Southwest Florida licensee. The retailer is No. 26 on Furniture Today’s most recent Top 100 with estimated 2018 furniture, bedding and accessory sales of $405.7 million at then 29 stores.
