CB2, GQ furniture line targets ‘today’s modern man’
CHICAGO — CB2, Crate and Barrel’s Millennial-focused brand, has teamed up with GQ magazine to unveil a new collection of Mid-Century Modern furniture and accessories that are designed to reflect today’s man, according to the publication.
“The person with the great personal style is always the one who’s not too coordinated,” said Jim Moore, GQ’s creative director at large. “It’s the same idea as your home. You want to walk into your space and be like – this is a really interesting mix.”
Moore said the collection balances a sense of toughness with more refined, sharp details such as metals, glass and marble touches with inspiration from cities with iconic architecture, from Chicago to Palm Springs, along with a nod to great designs of the 1930s, ‘70s and ‘80s when pieces were more industrial.“We really wanted to make sure these pieces were functional, but when sitting there unused still create a beautiful shape,” Moore said.
Items in the collection include sofas, barstools, lighting and bathroom accessories, which range in price from $3.95 for a Turkish washcloth to $2,999 for a tufted leather sofa. The collection is available both in-store and online.
Some of the key pieces include the Kotka tufted sofa and chair, which feature rich, lightly oiled, soft leather with exaggerated legs.
“This sofa is a contemporary take on the Chesterfield style, with modern lines and a color that can really fit into any decor theme,” said Miles Pope, GQ’s associate fashion market editor. “It works great for a modern Brooklyn loft, a smoking room in Connecticut or a bachelor pad in L.A. The Kotka sofa is a conversation piece, too, which any great sofa should be.”
Other pieces include the Montenegro wood dining table, made from solid oak and designed to bring durability to a classic design; the Gaff Metal frame chair, made with saddle-brown leather and sleek black metal combining to form a modern dining seat; and the Joi leather stools, which contain leather and wood and are available in both counter and bar height.
CB2 also partnered with Domino and Refinery29 earlier this year for an in-store event series, which will run at CB2’s 18 stores nationwide throughout the year and is centered on a theme curated by Domino that correlates with CB2’s seasonal collections.
